How Long Should You Book A Table Magician For?
The ideal performance time depends on your number of guests, the number of tables and the schedule for your meal or event. The aim is simple: give every table a great experience without rushing the magic or slowing down the occasion.
Up To Around 80 Guests
For many weddings, private dinners and corporate events, around two hours provides plenty of time to work comfortably around the tables and entertain your guests.
Matthew adjusts the length of each performance to the number of tables, so the entertainment feels relaxed while still keeping the evening moving.
More Than 80 Guests
For larger wedding breakfasts, corporate dinners and awards evenings, three hours often gives the most comfortable coverage and allows the magic to fit naturally around service.
Three hours is also typically around the maximum useful table-magic window during a formal meal before the event naturally moves into its next stage.
More Important Than The Clock
Every Table Gets Its Moment
Table magic has one major advantage over completely free-flowing walkaround entertainment: the guests are organised into clearly defined groups.
Once Matthew knows the number of guests, number of tables and available performance time, he can pace the evening accordingly. A smaller dinner can enjoy longer performances at each table, while a large event can use shorter, high-impact sets to ensure everyone is included.
If your event has a fixed deadline — perhaps the start of the awards, speeches, a band, casino or evening entertainment — Matthew works backwards from that time so the final tables aren't rushed or forgotten.
Very Large Events
Planning a particularly large dinner with 20 or 30 tables? Matthew can advise whether the available time is sufficient or whether bringing in a second professional magician would give your guests a better experience.
Awards & Speeches
If awards or speeches begin at a fixed time, the table magic is planned around them. Knowing the running order in advance means the entertainment can finish cleanly rather than competing with the important part of your evening.
Into The Evening
Table magic can continue as an event moves towards its evening entertainment. If music becomes louder, Matthew can adapt by using strong visual magic for guests who remain seated rather than trying to compete with the DJ.

Because every table is a fixed group, the performance can be paced around the room so that every table gets its own experience and nobody is missed.
Long Tables
Long banquet-style tables need a different approach. With a smaller table, Matthew can perform from the end so the whole group shares the experience together.
With a particularly long table, he can work progressively along it, changing the magic as he moves so guests further down aren't simply watching exactly the same performance twice.

If your event has a wedding top table, hosts, sponsors or important VIP guests, their table can be given a little extra attention without disrupting the flow of the evening.
